Economics of Yoga: How To Sustain Your Fitness Regimen
Most people do not love exercise. Yet, it’s necessary. So how to do it and keep doing it?
Great question!
Traditionally, the way we’ve structured exercise has been atrocious. Remember the gym class in your school days? You’re running track and you’re tired, Coach berates: “What’s wrong with you? Drop down and give me 200 push-ups!” If you do less than what’s demanded of you, if you feel pain in your knees and speak up, Coach’s response is often negative: lazy, sissy, weak.
The message I get: exercise is torture.
No pain, no gain. Right?
Hmmm…
Meanwhile, as adulthood glides into middle age, we notice that the body is tight as we roll out of bed. We sense our range of motion is shortening. We feel less energetic. We see fog in our brain. We wish for endurance. These signs of aging start to get more and more noticeable. We are bombarded with the message that exercise is essential to slow down degeneration.
And now we’re in a conundrum! Okay, I get it, I need to exercise. But I hate it! Wouldn’t it be nice, if I can exercise…and enjoy it? Is it possible?
Yes it is!
How?
Make it pleasurable.
